5 Signs It May Be Time to Replace Your Windows

Even if your windows can’t speak directly to you, there are little ways they can indicate it’s time for replacement windows. Well-made windows can withstand the elements for a long time, but the Greenfield elements, wear and tear and other factors can play a large role in the durability of your windows. If you aren’t sure if your windows are reaching the end of their lifespan, here are some signs that it may be time to replace them:

  1. Greenfield just survived a severe storm.
Regions that are likely to face severe weather, or even towns that have been hit with one powerful thunderstorm, can discover windows and homes damaged. Make sure you inspect your windows for possible damage if they experienced weather beyond what they were designed to handle.
  2. You are feeling drafts from your windows
Drafty windows can allow warm or cool air to escape your home and allow outside air to sneak in. Window drafts require your heating and cooling system to work harder than it needs to and can result in more expensive energy bills. Drafty windows can also hint at other issues, such as the need for weather-stripping or hardware, the presence of damaged window panes or other important repairs because of windows that are difficult to open and close.
An expert can also help you conclude if such a window can be fixed with a little amount of work or if it warrants a full replacement.
  3. You want to save on your utility bill
Have you found that your utility bills are unexpectedly high? According to Energy.gov, faulty windows can force your utility bills to increase by about 10–25 percent. Drafty, improperly sealed or old windows can require you to pay more for power as your HVAC system has to work overtime to make up for the lost air that has already been heated or cooled in your home. Pella window staff can work with you to find which type of windows could be best for boosting energy efficiency, and therefore best for helping your monthly bills, by examining such things as weather changes in Greenfield.
  4. You find condensation between your window panes
Although indoor condensation may not disturb you that much, it could cause window damage. Discovering condensation isn’t always a negative thing; in many cases it means the windows are functioning properly. However, condensation appearing between the panes of glass can be a sign of an issue. This concern can be easily avoided or solved with proper window replacement.
  5. Your house is experiencing a makeover
A home makeover is a perfect time to replace your windows—when so many other parts of your home are getting a facelift, why not include your windows? If you are going through a home makeover, it is probable that your home and windows are older, and you will want your windows to match the new design of your updated home. If you are replacing your windows with larger panes of glass, they can bring more light to your room. According to Architectural Lighting, daylit environments increase productivity and comfort. Pella of Greenfield has a wide variety of window styles to consider and can help make sure that your replacement windows match your home’s new style.
